Nutmeg Whole

Nutmeg seeds come covered with a protective hard shell that needs to be cracked in order to get to the softer middle flesh that can be used whole or grated. The outer shell is inedible. The aromatic flavor of nutmeg powder does not last long once grated.

Whole nutmeg is perfect for long term storage and freshness is at its best grated when needed maintaining its rich fragrance and flavor!

Once you crack the outer shell the nutmeg flesh can be grated using a micro grater or any other type of grinder (if using large quantities).

Nutmeg can be used in a variety of foods such as eggnog, punches, sauces, curries, baked desserts, stewed fruit, custards and the like!
